Dr. Kil Won Kim Dr. Kil Won Kim used to be a visiting scholar at CSUN after
obtaining Doctorial degree in music from the University of
Oklahoma in 1996, he taught voice, vocal technique, vocal
chamber ensemble, diction,solfege, and chorus at three universities
in Korea.
Dr. Kim debuted as alfredo in
La Traviata in 1985 at Pusan City
Hall in Korea. Since then, he has been a leading tenor for
operas such as La Boheme, Gianni Schicchi, Tosca,
and A Korean opera,The Story of
Chunhyang. He has been a leading singer for
numberous occasional concerts and invited to sing more than
50 concerts. His activities always get attention and respect
from scholars.
Before pursuing a Doctorate
degree at the University of Oklahoma, he worked at the Pusan
City Chorus in Korea both as a general member and the assistant
conductor. During his doctoral study, Dr. Kim concentrated
on vocal literature and French repertoire. His doctoral dissertation
describes the interrelationship between French poetry and
its musical settings. In particular, it explores why specific
poems by Paul Verlaine have prompted so many composers to
set them to music.
